About the Role:

Reporting to: Branch Manager Samoa
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Work Location: Apia, Samoa

The Tallyman is responsible for coordinating and monitoring container and vessel operations at the terminal to ensure accurate cargo handling, regulatory compliance, and effective equipment control for both import and export shipments.

The role and responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating vessel loading and discharge operations, including preparation of loading/discharge lists.
  • Managing import and export container movements, including gate in/gate out processes.
  • Ensuring all customs, wharfage, and clearance documentation is properly filed and compliant.
  • Monitoring container condition, conducting inspections, and preparing supporting reports (including photos).
  • Updating and maintaining equipment records (MAT file/LARA) and liaising with equipment control teams.
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with ports, terminals, customs, depots, and internal stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Completion of secondary education (Year 12 or equivalent); Certificate or Diploma in Logistics, Maritime Studies, Supply Chain or Business is preferred.
  • Previous experience in shipping, port, terminal, or logistics operations with sound understanding of import/export and customs processes.
  • Familiarity with container control systems (e.g. LARA) and proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail with high accuracy in documentation, reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work under pressure during vessel operations, manage deadlines, and resolve operational issues proactively.
  • Effective communication and coordination skills with internal teams, customs authorities, terminal operators, depots, and customers.
