Position Title: Senior Laboratory Technician

Level: G5/S1-G6/S7 $28,694.36-$43,543.64 p.a.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Manager Savaii Division through the Civil Engineer
Primary Objective
Manages Laboratory to implement and maintain standards in the laboratory and in operations by performing the following duties.
Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining high quality standards and procedures for laboratory operation.
- Assist in the development of methods of laboratory experimentation.
- Conduct tests on soils, aggregates, rocks and bitumen, the results and reports written,
carries out quality control on testing and submits daily reports to the Contract Engineer.
- Provide effective allocation of resources to ensure effective operation of the laboratory
including determination of equipment purchase priorities based on budget allowances,
condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities.
- Assist in the development and implementation of regular "calibration tests" and
maintenance checks of all laboratory equipment and undertakes further action as
necessary.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions, dismantles and repairs equipment or arranges outside
repair.
- Demonstrate to staff and coaches’ staff in the use and care of equipment.
- Confers with Mow staff periodically to review testing records and to evaluate new
equipment and methods.
- Plans and supervises the work and performance of self and staff to ensure targets are met
and testing standards are maintained.
- Conduct laboratory tests, analyze results, and document your findings and report back to
management.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualification
Minimum Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline preferably a Bachelor in Science. (Essential)
Work Experience
At least 3 years experience working in a laboratory conducting scientific testing roads products. (Essential)
Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrated ability to organize and maintain a clean workplace and identify laboratory equipment (Essential)
- Knowledge of international quality standards that relate to Samoa (such as Australia and New Zealand) for laboratory operations. (Desirable
- Clearly communicate both orally and in writing in Samoan and English. (Essential)
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety. (Essential)
- Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, and from contractors. (Desirable)
