SUNGO is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1997 and was registered as an Incorporated Society in the following year. The organisation was established to provide alternative development options and assistance to vulnerable groups in Samoa and to provide input into Government policy from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on issues which concerned them.
SUNGO represented a region wide initiative to develop a network of NGOs to assist in implementing regional assistance and projects. Today SUNGO has responsibilities regionally, internationally and globally to provide input into developmental issues that affect its member organisations.
