Your Unique Opportunity.

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Manager Observer Programme to join our team on a full - time basis, working from Honiara, Solomon Islands. This 3 - year contract is subject to renewal based on performance appraisals and funding.

As Manager Observer Programme, you will be responsible for ensuring consistent technical support to national observer programs, focusing on observer livelihood, safety, compensation, and matters related to observers at the WCPFC level Additionally, it involves coordinating annual regional observer workshops, attending related meetings, and reporting to the MCSWG and FFC while maintaining the PIRFO standard in collaboration with SPC.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively implement the observer livelihood and safety study recommendations.
  • Implementation of the Observer Compensation Scheme.
  • Capability Building Development for Observers.
  • Support members on Observer matters at the WCPFC level.
  • Effectively lead the Unit in achieving the annual work programme.

Benefits on Offer

You will receive a competitive salary ranging from US$82,019 to US$121,055 (tax - free for citizens of most countries), commensurate with your skills and experience. This includes COLDA, Location Allowance and Superannuation. Superannuation is paid every six months, amounting to 7.5% of the base salary.

We reimburse all reasonable medical, dental, and optical expenses for yourself and your dependents. Insurance coverage is also available for personal accidents, life, medical & repatriation. Education for dependent children is reimbursed at 75% of tuition fees (conditions apply). If your dependent child is studying overseas, paid school travel may be available for you or your child to visit each other once a year.

Relocation expenses will be paid, an establishment grant will be given arrival in Honiara, and accommodation assistance will also be available. 

Furthermore, you will have access to six weeks of annual leave each year providing ample time to explore this stunning part of the world.

Make the ultimate sea change! You will be working from Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, with opportunities to travel to all 17 FFA member nations and make a real difference in the Pacific.

You'll be great in this role because:

We seek a proactive individual with appropriate qualifications in a discipline relevant to fisheries observation and monitoring and appropriate qualification in a discipline related to business management policy and administration. You must have at least 7 + years of experience in a similar fisheries or natural resources development role.

Additionally, you should have demonstrated experience in managing observe programmes, working in small to medium teams, and working in the Pacific Region.

You will be an expert in understanding the Observer Programme and its operations, and have excellent facilitation skills and understanding of Adult Learning Principles. As Manager Observer Programme, you will possess advanced knowledge and skills of the US Treaty, understand the linkage between FFA objectives and the Observer Programme, and have an in - depth understanding of how the Observer Programme contributes to fisheries operations.

Please note that full vaccination against Covid - 19 is mandatory for this role. Although not essential, applicants who have had their booster are preferred.
