The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is an intergovernmental organization working to strengthen national capacity and regional solidarity so Pacific nations can manage, control, and develop their fisheries now and into the future.

We are located in Honiara, Solomon Islands working with our 17 member nations Australia, the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

If you want to work in a challenging and stimulation environment while tackling the impacts of climate change on our region, this is the opportunity for you!

You will receive a competitive salary circa US$82,019 - US$121,055 (tax - free, for citizens of most countries), commensurate with your skills and experience. This is inclusive of COLDA and Location Allowance plus Superannuation. Superannuation at 7.5% of base salary is paid on six - monthly basis. 

We reimburse all reasonable medical, dental, and optical expenses for yourself and your dependents. Insurance coverage is also available for personal accidents, life, medical & repatriation.

Education for dependent children is reimbursed at 75% of tuition fees (conditions apply). if your dependent child is studying overseas, paid school travel may be available for you and your child to visit each other once a year.

Relocation expenses will be paid, with an establishment grant paid on arrival in Honiara and accommodation assistance also available.

Moreover, you will have access to 6 weeks of annual leave each year, giving you plenty of time to explore this stunning part of the world!

Your unique Opportunity 

Our High - Level Advice Division is now looking for a full - time Climate Change Advisor to join our team working out of Honiara, Solomon Island. The objective of this role is to support the FFA Secretariat to strategies and strengthen its role in climate change, integrated into the wider climate ocean nexus in the region.

Your key duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Advising on strategic fisheries management and development issues around climate change adaptation and mitigation.
  • Leading integration of climate change into FFA's work and support divisions in designing well - funded and strategic interventions.
  • Work with stakeholders including national governments and regional agencies to ensure the region is united in its understanding of climate change and its impact on oceanic fisheries resources; and
  • Conduct detailed analysis of climate change - related reports to provide and present simplified briefs.

To be successful in this role, you will be a highly approachable individual with an outgoing personality! Your highly developed interpersonal and communication skills will ensure you can work in a multi-functional environment and team while developing strong working relationships with stakeholders of various cultural backgrounds, including Non-Government Organizations, Government Agencies, and the fishing industry itself.

It is considered essential that the successful candidate holds a masters qualification in economics, climate change issues and an understanding of ocean related impacts and risks.

It is also deemed essential that you have demonstrated experience in climate finance.
