Accountant

Based in Samoa and under the overall supervision of the Country Manager – Samoa, the Accountant role supports the effective and efficient operation of the Finance function at Interlinc Samoa and provides assistance to the Finance team on a day-to-day basis. The position is a team-based role that requires a high degree of flexibility and commitment to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and commitment is also needed to see the allocated tasks through from start to completion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer day-to-day financial transactions for the business and ensure these are accounted for in line with international standards, company policies and/or best business practices. Ensure accurate classification and coding of all transactions.
  • Prepare purchase orders in accordance with company policy and ensure that these purchase orders are actioned and placed on a timely basis classification and coding of all transactions.
  • Process supplier invoices on a timely basis (logging, validation, and ledger entry). Undertake supplier statement reconciliation to ensure completeness and accuracy of the Accounts Payable ledger. Followed by running of creditor payments and settling all accounts payables in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Process customer receipting on a timely basis (logging, validation, and ledger entry). Undertake customer statement reconciliation to ensure completeness and accuracy of the Accounts Receivable ledger. Followed by running of debtor’s payments and ensuring all accounts receivables are settled in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Manage petty cash for both all locations and ensure timely reimbursements and coding of all transactions.
  • Prepare and process payroll ensuring that supporting timesheets are approved by the Country Manager.
  • Effective management of Fixed Assets ensuring additions, disposals and obsolescence is notified to reporting lines in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and document journal entries for approval as may be required during business.
  • Administer timely lodgment for all tax returns as provided for in its tax law. Key tasks would include but not be limited to VAGST, Corporate, PAYE, NPF, ACC and other tax returns.
  • Effective stock management by carrying out periodic stock takes of all inventory items and ensure that stock takes, inventory reports and general ledger are always in reconciliation. Report any significant and unexplained variances to reporting lines in a timely manner.
  • Identify and recommend improvements in terms of operational processes as well as system-based improvements and controls. Always promote and foster good financial risk management practices.
  • Assist with the investigation and resolution of customer queries.
  • Assist reporting lines during internal and external audits by timely facilitation of required information.
  • Provide training and assistance to other team members of Interlinc Samoa as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance or a relevant field.
  • At least five (3) years finance experience - preferably in a manufacturing and/or stock-based organisation.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • A self-starter and quick learner, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other business systems.
  • Clean and valid Driver’s License.
