Applications are invited for the position of Chief Dentist/Dental Surgeon with the Department of Health, Tokelau Government.

Dental Services under the Department of Health focuses primarily on the provision of dental services and improvement of the dental health of the people, and advising the Director of Health on dental health issues. The Chief Dentist/Dental Surgeon reports directly to the Director of Health and is responsible for providing leadership, managing and monitoring the delivery of dental health services by the Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and management of dental health services under the Department of Health
  • Improve the dental health knowledge and awareness of the local communities’
  • Plan, implement and monitor local schools dental programs
  • Provide clinical and prosthetic health services
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on dental health services
  • Formulate division annual plan and budget
  • Other tasks allocate by the Director of Health

Selection criteria:

The successful applicants should meet the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Must hold a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from a recognised institution
  • Must hold a current dental practicing certificate
  • Minimum 10 years work experience in dentistry in remote settings
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in a senior clinical management role
  • Experience in policy development, planning and budgeting
  • A strong community and public health focus
  • Awareness of the Tokelau culture and language 

This is a contract position for three years, based in Tokelau. The successful applicant may be required to travel to between the islands and Apia, Samoa if and when required.

Remuneration:This position is classified under Band 8 - Specialist Scale of the Tokelau Public Service Remuneration Framework.
